American Saddlebred Sport Horse News
New Server, New Look
Dressage Instruction on ASB'S Bryn Dewines Farm, of Chester Springs, PA, is pleased to announce the opening of the American Saddlebred Dressage Studio. In the first venture of its kind anywhere, the American Saddlebred horse is being showcased in an exciting new venture- teaching the beautiful sport of dressage. The Studio represents a collaboration of the talents of Johanna Gwinn, and the American Saddlebred dressage horses of Bryn Dewines Farm, with a focus on introducing the public to the American Saddlebred in a non-traditional setting. The goal is to offer those wishing to further their dressage education the opportunity to meet American Saddlebreds who are correctly schooled as dressage horses- and experience the breed “up close and personal” in a familiar environment- a dressage facility. The American Saddlebred is well known as the “Peacock of the Show ring”, however, the “sport horse America made”, also has a wonderful aptitude for dressage work, and they possess the great character and athletic ability to make fabulous partners in any arena of competition. All of the “four footed teachers” at Bryn Dewines Farm are either registered American Saddlebreds, or are Half- American Saddlebred. Out of the traditional show ring, without the trappings normally associated with “show horses”, the breed has the ability to compare favorably with other breeds of warmblood derivation. However, they are often over looked by those shopping for a sport horse, simply because most equestrians associate them only with the standard representations shown in breed magazines, and books, where the show horse divisions are emphasized.
Bryn Dewines Farm is also home to the celebrated American Saddlebred stallion Borealis, who has been featured as the centerfold in Horse Illustrated, as well as in other publications, and across the internet. Aurora Blue, Reserve Champion at the Devon Horse Show in 2007, is another one of the farms American Saddlebred Ambassadors. Alix
Kocher, whose mother is also an FEI Level Dressage Judge offers, “I've
owned two off the track thoroughbreds, with their collection of
challenges, and two quite difficult warmbloods - one Swedish and one
Oldenburg. They were both nice movers with lots of talent, but
delayed in their training and quite difficult rides. I learned a
lot, and brought both of them to third level before illness ended their
careers. It was a frustrating ride all along, and both of them had
me to the point of tears on multiple occasions”. She purchased her
horse, Chasing A Daydream, after riding at Bryn Dewines Farm for about a
year. Since then, “Chase and I have been doing what this sport is
supposed to be all about - having FUN, making progress, and enjoying
each day together. He is affectionate (that's an understatement!),
generous, forward, smart, willing to try just about anything, talented
and very very pretty.” Chase and Alix also placed second and fifth at
last years Devon Horse Show. Alix is having the time of her life
with her new partner, “Every
instructor I work with comments on his willing attitude,
determination to figure out what I want, and generous answer to every
request. Comments from well-respected trainers have run from
"Now THAT'S what an amateur horse should be," to "he's
ALWAYS trying to give you what you want, so if he doesn't, it's only
because he doesn't understand." Bryn Dewines Farm is offering the
public the opportunity to have the very same experience. For additional
